Dalkem Aluminum Stearate Technical Grade
Product Description
ALUMINUM STEARATE
Aluminum Stearate is an Aluminum Salt that functions as a defoamer in water based drilling fluids by reducing surface tension.
It is not water soluble, so it must be mixed with diesel, glycol, or alcohol prior to adding it to the drilling fluid.
Effectiveness decreases, however, when salinity of the drilling fluid increases.
Drilling fluids containing a high concentration of polymers may require an alcohol‐based or silicon based defoamer to be adequately defoamed.
Aluminum Stearate is not an anti foaming agent, but reduces the ability of foam to persist once it is formed.
ADVANTAGES
• Aluminum Stearate is used to control foaming in water based fluids.
• Effective in very low concentrations.
• May be used in all water based fluids.
• Minimal effect on drilling fluid properties.
